Improve your dog's dry skin

When your dog is showing signs of dry or flaky skin, it's a sign that they may not be producing enough of the oils that help to retain moisture in the skin. Just like us, our dog's skin requires regular moisturising and nourishment to remain supple and smooth.

And dogs with dry skin are also more likely to suffer secondary problems through exposure to environmental factors such as dust mites, pollen and other allergens. As we move into spring, this can become more of a problem.

If their skin is dry and vulnerable, this allows irritants to pass through the layers of the skin more easily, leading to red and inflammed areas of skin, which can cause discomfort for our pets.

The key omega oil that helps the skin retain moisture is an omega 6 oil called Linoleic Acid (LA for short). LA is the skin's moisture barrier, and if your dog is short of this omega 6, they are more likely to have dry and flaky skin. You can get LA from seed oils such as golden flax and starflower.

Another important omega 6 oil that helps your dog's skin condition is called GLA. GLA plays a key role in the replenishment of healthy skin. You find GLA in natural seed oils such as Evening Primrose Oil and Starflower oil, and it's very important as your dog can not produce beneficial amounts themselves, so rely on supplementation in their diet.

YUMEGA is a natural omega 3&6 food supplement made from Golden Flax and Starflower, and is proven to improve dry skin conditions in as little as 3 - 6 weeks, simply by adding to your dog's meal. YUMEGA also contains natural Vitamin E, which is a natural anti-oxidant and helps to support your dog's skin defences.
